"Express your idea"

Hotels always try to give their best effort in order to provide excellent service to the guests. To achieve this, hotels need to understand the current trend and needs of the guests. many revolution have been done by hotels, for example from the manual key to a computerized room key card system. hotels are trying to cope with the advancement of technology in order to attract more guests. as you can see, it is popular today for hotels to provide the 'wi-fi' facility in order to satisfied the guest. Nowadays, most hotels are using the software at the front office; for example Opera, Micros, and many more. it is obvious that technology has been a major contributor for the changes in the hotel's services and facilities.

what kind of technological facility / service that you could expect in the next 5 years time at the hotels? and how it can contribute to the success of the hotel in order to attract the guests?

"Leadership Training"

Case:
In the society now, people are getting more intelligent and richer in their working experience. People are willing to sacrifice their time to get abundant knowledge. On the other hand there are some people that put a side their education to get plenty of experience at work. Now assuming that each one of you is a CEO who has a power to promote a supervisor.
Which one do you choose to become a great supervisor between "a person that have abundant knowledge but lack of experience" OR "a person has plenty of experience but lack of education"?Why?

ISSUE

Consider the following issue;

The problem of attracting and retaining qualified hotel workers is increasingly becoming a global challenge. Wage levels, failure to adequately address worker satisfaction, and a reputation for long hours and low pay are all cited as contributing factors.

What innovative strategies can creative hospitality professionals develop to attract and retain high quality workers?

The deadline for comments on this post is March 19th.

Good luck for the final exam!

Dear students,

At Fenni's request, I would like to give you all a little info regarding the final exam.

You can expect the test format / types of questions to be similar to that / those encountered on the mid-term. Having said that, be aware that, as this test weighs 35 percent of your final grade, many of the questions require a more productive response, rather than simply answering multiple choice questions or completing gap fills. This may include, but is not limited to, dialogues, professional letters, requests for information, polite forms etc...

Due to the productive nature of this test, language use (i.e grammar), polite forms etc will be assessed through various sections of the exam - special instructions explaining this are included where relevant.

The test content could be broken down in the following way;
  • vocabulary - 20%
  • grammar - 10%
  • dialogues - 40%
  • professional writing - 30%
In terms of revision, as the test focuses more heavily on the second half of the course, you should focus your revision on course content from the second half of the course. However, you should also expect to be tested on the earlier units as well, so... I think you catch my drift :)

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email or contact me through the blog.

Good luck to you all,

Mr. Lee
