Hotels always try to give their best effort in order to provide excellent service to the guests. To achieve this, hotels need to understand the current trend and needs of the guests. many revolution have been done by hotels, for example from the manual key to a computerized room key card system. hotels are trying to cope with the advancement of technology in order to attract more guests. as you can see, it is popular today for hotels to provide the 'wi-fi' facility in order to satisfied the guest. Nowadays, most hotels are using the software at the front office; for example Opera, Micros, and many more. it is obvious that technology has been a major contributor for the changes in the hotel's services and facilities.
what kind of technological facility / service that you could expect in the next 5 years time at the hotels? and how it can contribute to the success of the hotel in order to attract the guests?
The deadline for comments on this post is April 2nd.
happy blogging! (:
hmm..five years from now..i think that there is a possibility where five years from now, hotel guests are able to order room service or ask for some more coat hangers or towels or even the laundry through the room without having to pick up the phone.what i mean by this is that there is an internal POS where the designated department (housekeeping, laundry, food n beverage) in the hotel will have a screen where they receive the order. with this kind of facilities, it will make it easier for the guests so they do not have to pick up the phone and go through the front office/receptionist area just to get to the room service or any other departments, also they can book tours or limo's through this device so that it will make it easier for the front office to maintain and check everything. why i think with this type of technology is that it is more advanced and different from other hotels. because usually in some hotels, there is no direct extension to get to one department and also usually it takes a long time for the order to come up. but with this technology, it will be faster for people and guests to get their orders done.
ReplyDeletetough question tough question..
ReplyDeleteanyway, i'll try to answer it..
5 years from now?
facilities?
Well, i as thinking about there will be no need to go to a business centre as everything is provided in the room.
not only the wireless - fidelity but also the computer, the fax machine, the photocopy, just simply everything.
In my opinion, the hotel rooms will be small in number but larger in space to provide more facilities for the guest.
I know my opinions in this case study are short. hahaha.. :p
the brain is working....
ReplyDeleteIn the next 5 years, the kind of technology that came up in my mind is the greeting in each room everytime a guest enter his/ her room. Example" Welcome back Miss Tiffany, or Goodby Miss Tiffany" Beside this, a hotel room can also provice Voice activated music system. this system works as the guest request a song, simply by saying out the name of the song, and the hidden speakers behind the walls could give you the requested music!
Interested huh? stay alive until the next 5 years and experience it ONLY at Binus Hotel ! :D hahahahahhaha. *cacad*
hahaha.. well, first of all i would like to apologize for the topic i had posted. i don't why, this is the only topic that came across my mind. hehe.. well, but so far i like all of your idea. i agree with them.anyway, it's cool to fast forward the time for a while, right? hehe.
ReplyDeletewell, i think in the next 5 years time there will be an automatic sliding doors for the hotel room. so the doors used will be like the one in the mall entrance. so the guest can just tap in their key card to the respective machine and the room's door will slide opened automatically after the tapping of card. the doors will be made of thick glass which posses high strength and can't be broken easily. in addition to this, the sliding doors won't be transparent but it will be dark and invisible from outside.this is important in order to maintain high privacy of the guest (:
Well, in my opinion, the present of technology in the world is a blessing to us. Until this year, technology was helping us to do many of the risky, difficult, dangerous, and complicated jobs to be more simple and easy.
ReplyDeleteFor the hotel’s application, the technology is having the important and crucial role. As we can think of the hotel’s condition back when it still under the 20th century, the technology has brought the dramatic changes into the operation style.
For the next 5 years, the technology will sure be more advance in all aspect. Maybe we will find the robots are walking around us to help. In order to maximize the security level, it will be suitable to install the machine with high quality sensors, which able to detect the radiations of the threaten objects, and immediately take the perspective action whenever the alert is found. Then, it could also be the quickest laundry machines develop which can operate to wash and dry clothes in not more than 5 mins. They can be very useful for the housekeeping departments. Next, the new technology can introduce the handle of the door which already install with the sound recognitions or finger prints secure system, which can increase the security level.
As tata had mention above, all the equipment placed in the guest room may helps the guest needs directly by sending the information to the responsible department. So, this kind of facility can be mention as the personal assistance for serving the guest. By all this way, i believe technology make the life simpler and easier. =)
I would say that in 5 years time hotels need to start consider integrating iris scan/ voice recognition to its room security systems. While it may be true that current systems do not give too much trouble these days, one could never predict how the future would be like. Stealing from hotel rooms might be a new form of crime; so better security system is a necessity. It may be a little costly, but implementing the aforementioned security procedure could go a long way in distinguishing certain hotels from the others. Greater security would create cutting edge which makes hotels (regardless of its luxurious facilities and exceptional hospitality) can be more trusted and gain a favorable reputation.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of technology, 5 years from now will not tap in or key in when entered to a room. It will use a key chain that can open the door from 1 meter. It's using encoding from radio frequency so that the guests can open a room from distance and automatically open without any hassle to open it. Imagine if a guest holding too much things on his hand, he can easily drop the key card. However with this technology the guest don't need to take out his key card from his pocket.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing is, the front desk agents are not strictly to stand behind a desk. A front desk agent can escort the guests and show the facilities of the hotels while the front desk agent making reservation. This happens because all the front desk agents use an iPad or tablet computer. Thus the productivity is more effective, not only that but also the front desk agents can deliver a maximum service to the guests. With this idea, the guests don't need to ask the instruction to go to restaurant, bar, fitness center.
Actually, nowadays many hotels are using a very high technology for run their business. For example like, the Director of Sales in Hotel Mulia said yesterday, there is one hotel in Tokyo are using a high technology machine for guest to check in, so they do not need any receptionist anymore to help them for check in. Other than that, talking about a technology in 5 years later that came up in my mind is hotel should provide an 'automatic food service machine' in each hotel's room.
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is, if I, as a guest, I want to order a Fried Rice and Coffee, I don't need to call a room service and wait for a several minutes for them to bring my food to my room. I just press what I want to order on the machine, and the order automatically send the message to the kitchen, and the kitchen staff just put the food to the machine, and the food machine will bring up my order to my room straight away. And when my order has arrived, the machine is giving a sign that it has arrived (for example, 'sounds beep' or 'light up') . It is more efficient than I have to call a room service or wait for them to bring my food to my room. And I think, by this way, many guests are more attracted and interested to use this high technology machine, and of course, it will improve the quality of the hotel and absolutely our hotel can get more revenue because of attraction from the guest of using this machine :)
i think, 5 years later, they dont need any key or card, they can just say open, then the door will be open..
ReplyDeleteand for the facilities in the room, if we want to turn on the tv, turn on the video, we just need tu say "turn on TV" etc..
In 5 years time, I can imagine when the guest want to reserve the room, they don't have reserve a room from the internet. So, they use telephone calls but it is not the receptionist answer the question. When we call the hotel, the operator just said :"welcome to Binus Hotel". Then the guest can directly say their reservation quickly and fast without the receptionist asking the question. The operator is also not asking the question. So, we just tell when we arrive, our special requirement, how many nights, etc. Then, our voice is recorded and automatically put in the reservation data. The benefit of the hotel is they don't have to hire receptionist (less expenses needed). And for the guest, they can save time speaking directly about the reservation without facing the receptionist. So, everything is about voice, saying and telling, and everything will work automatically.
ReplyDeletefirst time i saw this post, i thought of many things that we can do with technology, especially in the future there is going to be more advance technology that we can use. like ordering room service or asking for towel to the housekeeping using 1 control panel where we can just dial of type what we want without having to call the front office. but then i thought that if we use that kind of technology or too much technology the beauty of the service in the hotel will be gone, like answering the telephone,by the way they speak on the telephone, that's what they learn for in hospitality. and that's part of the service as well. by using too much technology, those kind of services will be gone. so i kind of hope it doesn't change so much. unless the advance technology is to make faster service, such as for making food so we can serve it faster.
ReplyDeleteMost of people talk about the room services. But come to my mind about the security check when we about to enter the hotel building. Usually the hotels are using some guards to check our cars from bomb devices. But I think if only rely on the guards will not be efficient because sometimes people like to negligent and they are lazy to really look at and examine in details. So in 5 years, we are going to have this automatic bomb tracking device that are placed at the entrance (like when we about to enter the mall nowadays. but in 5 years we will use this technology to check the cars). Then it will be more effective and safer to what guests are concerns about.
ReplyDelete5 years from now, the technology will surely be faster, great and professional. As Fenni had mentioned before that there is one hotel that provide a full technology service in the reception to check in. However I think that this is not a good idea as hotels' main goal is to provide a friendly and warm service from the employees, they need to be personally recognized in order to bring more loyalty guests to stay in the hotel. What comes to my mind when talking about the technology for the next 5 years is that the water under the shower bath in the guest's toilet could automatically be on by itself due to it's sensor. Besides that, there is no need for the guests to use their key cards to enter their rooms, they could just enter their pin codes so that it will be more secure and simple.
ReplyDeletei guess six years later there's a hotel which is located in the sky!haha..I don't know what kind of technology could be used for that but as we know in Dubai and Bali there are hotels which are located under the sea thus I think it is possible to make it :-p

ReplyDeletei think in 5 year later, hotel should more have a good technology.. to access door room no need key card anymore, just use fingerprints for entry into the room, and when out of the room doors will be locked automatically. Inside the room, phone can be replaced by a computer. so when we need to contact room service or need additional towels and tools - toiletries, we have direct access via computer what items we need, automatically the goods will be directly send it to rooms
ReplyDeleteDon't you guys think technology will degrade hospitality in terms of service?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion 5 years from now technology will grow very fast. In hotel room the guests will use bluetooth instead of telephone. so the guests will call receptionist anytime and practical. To save labour hotel will provide a robot to clean the room.
